Technology Reflection

Although technology may be a very helpful tool now, in the future it may strike us with problems that we may need to be deal with.  We now have the world at our fingertips.  Technology is used every day by almost everyone.  I believe that it has greatly changed how children interact.  Children do not know how to play outside anymore.  They are attached to their devices instead of riding their bikes or playing with friends.  Children should have limits with technology.  My daughter is always on her tablet.  I have her get on education apps, but I know that most of the time she’s not even using those apps.  Instead, she’s playing games or watching videos.  That is not how I remember my childhood being.  Also, I have seen many times when every single family member is on their phone instead of talking to each other.  This is where abusing the power of technology comes in.

Even though technology may seem like a bad thing for children and how it is used, technology is a great tool when used in education and medicine.  There are many tools that are used during the day by teachers for their classrooms.  Also, there now most classrooms that have one-on-one devices for students to use.  With distance learning happening everywhere, technology is what has helped teachers keep up with lesson plans for their students.  Technology is also a great tool used in medicine.  It’s is constantly being used to come up with new techniques for different procedures.  It is changing the world for the better.

  1. I think that you are correct that technology is making the world better in some aspects. In the world of medicine I believe that it has made great advancements and that is why our population is starting to live a better and longer life. Now when it come to how it affects children I think that it is destroying it. It really saddens me to see children not play outside like I use to as a kid. The educational games that children can play on their tablets though are great in my opinion. I think there just need to be balance.

  2. I agree that technology is making positive leaps in our world, but one cannot ignore the negatives. I like how you said your daughter has educational games on her tablet, because I strongly believe many kids do not, they only have games. I know my 4 year old nephew only has games on his iPad. I agree that children need to have limitations to their phones or tablets, whatever it may be, because you do not see parents handing their kids a bowl of candy and letting them go crazy, I believe the 'candy' is their video games and tablets, but many times parents do not see it that way.

  3. YES!!! I LOVE that you are an advocate for time limits on technology. There are even adults that need time limits as well as children. Everyone likes to blame a child for being on a device for too long but they were not born that way. It is a learned behavior that parents have allowed these children to come to know. I am thankful for the technology that has been done in the medical field. I am grateful for the process that has been created to help a women like myself have a baby, but I DO believe that there is another instance that boundaries need to be set!

  4. Ms. Medina, I see your point where you mention that technology will bring some problems to deal with. The responsibility that adults with young family members have, is key to monitor the time our love ones spend using the devices.
On the other hand this new educational technology must be used wisely. During the first semester in first grade class, kids only used the computer lab for 30 minutes. The tablets were used until the second semester and only for no more than 20 minutes. This class needed more social interaction than technology.

  5. I completely agree with you. I think every household should have limits on how much technology their kids can have daily. Kids today do not know how to ride a bike to a friends house. They rather just shoot them a text to see what they are doing. Technology is not always bad, it just depends on how we manage it.

  6. I totally agree with you, Karina! Things like digital textbooks, interactive lessons, and class websites are great learning tools to use in a classroom. Technology is wonderful in moderation, but there are essential skills like critical thinking and communication that simply cannot be developed if a student's face is stuck to a screen all day.
